You have to keep doing it in order to get the same pleasurable feelings from doing it. It also acts as a sedative relieving the person who smokes from stress, this is another reason why people tend to smoke because of the stress relieving properties of it.

It predominantly works on the pleasure centres within your brain stimulating both serotonin and dopamine centres, so in effect you have a very powerful reward system within your mind. Every time you smoke a cigarette so it’s plain to see why it can be hard to get rid of your nicotine addiction.

When people try to stop smoking one of the first thing that happens is, they may become very irritable because of not having their nicotine fix, things that happened can be anxiety or depression, coughing a lot as the body tries to clear body of tar which has accumulated in the lungs, you will probably have increased appetite which may lead to weight gain.

Feeling tired with a lack of concentration probably due to the fact that your brain is crying out for a cigarette, after a time these cravings will gradually decrease, this is probably one of the reasons why so many people fail to stop smoking.
