Can smoking cause high blood pressure? smoking does not cause high blood pressure alone, however it is risk factor for getting heart disease. Smoking causes the narrowing of blood vessels, so people who smoke have a increased risk of heart attack or stroke. People with high blood pressure should stop smoking. If you’re not smoking, don’t start.

Smoking does not cause high blood pressure. Smoking will raise a person’s blood pressure temporarily, but once the chemicals from smoking are removed, blood pressure will decrease to its normal level.

Smoking damages the blood vessel wallsof arteries and speeds up the process of hardening of your arteries. So even though it doesn’t cause high blood pressure, smoking is bad for anyone, especially those with high blood pressure. If you smoke, quit. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. Once you quit, your risk of having a heart attack is reduced after the first year. So you have a lot to gain by stopping smoking.

Did you know that smoking and heart disease are related? Or that smoking increases blood pressure? A lot of people correlate cigarette smoking with breathing problems and lung cancer. But did you know that people who smoke are more likely to develop hypertension and heart disease. About 30% of all deaths from heart disease in the U.S. are directly connected to cigarette smoking. That’s because smoking is a major cause of coronary artery disease especially the yonger generation.

Smoking is one of the major risk factors for developing heart disease (cardiovascular disease). Smoking also interacts with other risk factors. If you smoke and also have high blood pressure, your risk of having coronary artery disease is greater than it would be by just adding the two risks. If you do not already have high blood pressure, you will not get it from smoking. If you do have high blood pressure, smoking speeds up the development of a dangerous form of it (malignant hypertension), and increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Imagine this your arteries are pipes that carry blood from your heart to the rest of your body. High blood pressure (also called hypertension) occurs when your blood moves through your arteries at a higher pressure than normal a bit like water in a hose pipe. Nicotine is a vaso-constrictor which means it narrows blood vessel, making it harder for blood to move through the body. In turn the heart must work harder to pump the blood.

The main causes of high blood pressure are stress and poor lifestyle stylechoces of living. Smoking and an excessive intake of intoxicants, tea, coffee, and refined foods destroy your cells. Smoking cigarettes is a very dangerous habit. One in ten smokers end up with a cancer of some sort, while others are at a very high risk of getting one of many life-threatening ailments.

Some of these ailments are as small as a cough to as intense as a myocardial infarction, or a heart attack. Smoking is one of the world’s leading causes of preventable death. Smoking is addictive, but if one quits smoking, the body can repair itself within 10 years unless cancer or emphysema is present. Most countries have instituted high taxes to deter smoking, but with little or no effect. Most smokers are aware of the potentially fatal effects of smoking but continue to smoke because they are addicted or think that it wouldn’t affect them.

The Nicotine in cigarettes coupled with a lack of oxygen to the tissues within the body makes blood vessels to thin and can cause a stroke. Smoking causes the body not able to circulate blood properly, which in turn causes high blood pressure. This is because of the fatty deposits that build up.

The carbon monoxide from smoking makes cholesterol deposits which form on the artery walls. The mixture of high blood pressure and high cholesterol may cause a stroke. Blood clots are more likely because of the the amount of nictione present within the body and artery walls.

When blood pressure is taken there are two numbers for each reading: for example, 120/80. This is because each heartbeat sends a pressure wave through the bloodstream. The higher figure systolic blood pressure is the peak of the wave, when your heart contracts. The lower figure diastolic blood pressure is the lower “dip” or trough of the wave, when your heart relaxes. Blood pressure is always recorded as the systolic number over the diastolic number; the numbers indicate pressure as measured in millimetres of mercury on the gauge (mm Hg). Anyone with a measurement above 140 systolic or 90 diastolic has high blood pressure.

Every time you smoke a cigarette your blood pressure goes up and so does the risks of having high blood pressure

If you have emphysema or chronic bronchitis, you know how awful it feels when you get a cold virus. Breathing is difficult enough with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Not only does catching a cold worsen your ability to breathe and be active, but the cold virus increases your chance of getting a more serious respiratory illness.

Both are chronic lung diseases that make it hard to breathe. Both diseases are chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, meaning they are conditions that cause a limitation in airflow and affects breathing.

Emphysema and chronic bronchitis may happen separately or together and are usually the result of smoking. In addition, although it happens rarely, a genetic form of emphysema can occur early in adulthood, even if you never smoked. In your life Chronic bronchitis involves inflammation and enlargement of the lining of the airways that leads to narrowing and obstruction of the airways.

The inflammation also stimulates production of mucus which can cause further obstruction of the airways. Obstruction of the airways, especially with mucus, increases the likelihood of bacterial lung infections. Chronic bronchitis usually is defined clinically as a daily cough with production of mucus for three months in a row. The symptoms of chronic bronchitis are a constant cough and excess phlegm. There is also a higher incidence of throat and lung infections. People with chronic bronchitis are more susceptible to both lung and heart failure.

Tobacco smoke contains many harmful chemicals, and the smoke itself limits our lungs’ natural filtering/cleaning system. Cigarette smoke also contains substances that directly damage the lung tissue. Smoking irritates the bronchial tubes in the lungs which in turn results in the production of more mucus. Smokers’ cough, as it is commonly known, is a sign that the lungs are trying to clean themselves.

Emphysema (also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a group of lung diseases that are characterized by a reduced ability of the lungs to oxygenate the blood.

Emphysema and chronic bronchitis mostly occur together. Emphysema develops over many years — as the small air sacs within the lungs are slowly destroyed, usually by cigarette smoke. As a result, the surface area necessary to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide becomes inadequate, and patients become more and more short of breath.

Almost half of patients with COPD have anxiety, depression, or another psychiatric disorder, compared with 31% in the general population. Women with COPD are more susceptible to psychological problems than men.

Emphysema is essentially a chronic disease, which generally occurs after the age of 40. It is less frequent in women.

Almost sixteen million Americans suffer from some form of COPD, and emphysema is the fourth-ranking cause of death in the United States after heart disease, cancer and stroke. Which are all smoking related illnesses.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a respiratory illness in which airflow through the lung’s bronchial tubes is partially blocked-up. This obstruction makes it hard to breath. Breathing can get worse to the point where it interferes with daily activities such as walking, dressing and eating.

In harsh cases it can be life threatening. Heart damage is possible if the lungs are severely damaged. A person with it may die if the lungs and heart are no longer able to carry oxygen to the body’s organs, tissues, or when a complication occurs such as a infection.

Most cases of the disease it develops after constantly breathing in fumes and other things that aggravate and harm the lungs and airways.

Cigarette smoking is the most common problem that causes it. Pipe, cigar, and other types of smoke can also cause COPD, especially if the smoke is inhaled. Breathing in other fumes and dusts over a long period of time may also cause COPD.

The lungs and airways are highly sensitive to these irritants. They cause the airways to become swollen and narrow, and they destroy the elastic fibers that allow the lung to stretch and then return to its resting shape. This makes breathing air in and out of the lungs more difficult.

In the USA , at least 400,000 people die each year as a result of diseases related to cigarette smoking. In COPD, most of the damage to the airways and lungs caused by cigarette smoking is not reversible. However, stopping smoking can definitely reduce further damage and reduce many symptoms of COPD such as chronic coughing and shortness of breath.

Cigarette smoking is the most important cause of COPD, although only about 15 to 20% of smokers develop the disease. Pipe and cigar smokers develop it more often than nonsmokers but not as often as cigarette smokers. With age, susceptible cigarette smokers lose lung function more rapidly than nonsmokers.

If a person stops smoking, there is little improvement in lung function. However, the rate of decline of lung function does return to that of nonsmokers when the person stops smoking, thus delaying the progression of symptoms.

Asthma also is a pulmonary disease in which there is obstruction to the flow of air out of the lungs, but unlike chronic bronchitis and emphysema, the obstruction in asthma usually is reversible. Between “attacks” of asthma the flow of air through the airways usually is good.

Lung cancer get’s a lot of the attention from cigarette smoking, in truth many more people die at a young age from circulatory related problems than lung disease. If there were fewer deaths from smoking related heart problems, we would actually have a much higher death rate caused by lung cancer.

Smoking in any form, even cigars, will have the effect of increasing LDL cholesterol and decreasing HDL cholesterol. It also slightly increases triglycerides. This is a has a double whammy effect because it harmfully affects all your cholesterol levels. Cholesterol levels have a direct relationship with coronary artery disease, known as atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis, which is a condition in which arteries become coagulated and congested. Blocked arteries can keep the heart from getting enough blood and oxygen, and may cause chest pain angina. If a blood clot forms, it can cut off blood flow in the blood vessel and cause a heart attack.

Smoking speeds up the process of atherosclerosis by damaging the cells lining the blood vessels and heart. Smoking can also raise your risk of dangerous blood clots, because of the atherosclerosis and because smoking causes blood platelets to stick together.

Cigarette smoke contains many hazardous substances, in the development of heart disease, these substances play an important role. Our blood vessels have endothelial cells on the inner side of the blood vessel. These cells inhibit clotting of our blood inside the vessel. Substances in the smoke damage the walls of our vessel’s by damaging the endothelial cells. When the endothelial cells are damaged, cholesterol and fat get accumulated under the endothelial layer.

This causes a swelling inside the vessel, so this swelling narrows the lumen of the vessel this reduces the blood supply to the area which that blood vessel is supplying so if that blood vessel is supplying the heart , this leads to Angina. And if that bulge completely obstructs the vessel lumen, or that bulge bursts inside the vessel causing clot formation inside the blood vessel, then it leads to Myocardial Infraction (A Heart Attack).

Smoking is more commonly associated with chronic lung conditions like lung cancer or COPD, most people don’t think about heart disease when they take the first breath of their morning cigarette. But smoking is a major cause of heart disease for men and women. In the United States , deaths from heart disease directly related to smoking have been in the twenty percent range.

Did you know that your risk of heart disease and heart attack increases with the number of cigarettes you smoke? In fact, if you smoke one pack of cigarettes a day, your risk of heart attack increases by more than two-fold.

But it doesn’t stop there…you will continue to increase your risk of heart disease the more that you smoke.

Smoking causes high blood pressure and the carbon monoxide in cigarettes inhibits the blood’s ability to transport oxygen to the heart efficiently. Smoking also increases bad high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, as well as increased levels of platelets and fibrinogen, both of which encourage blood clots.

What happens when you have lung cancer exactly, normal cells within the human body will divide amongst each other, and grow also without interfering with each other. If cancer comes along this process is disrupted and you get a growth of cancerous cells which tend to spread where ever they are.Lung cancer in the United Kingdom is one of the biggest killers this country has approximately 40,000 people a year die from this disease alone. And it is also known as one of the most common cancers that the United Kingdom has.

What is the main cause of of lung cancer in people, the number one reason that people get lung cancer is from smoking you can also get it from passive smoking, which is inhaling other people’s smoke, if you’re in the bracket of people that smokes heavily say between 20 and 50 cigarettes a day.

Then you are far more likely to get lung cancer, if you pack up smoking for a longer period of time say over 15 years or more then the risks fall to that of a non-smoker. There are a few ways to tell if you have got lung cancer, you may start coughing uncontrollably without having a cold or any other reason.

You might have trouble with your breathing and find yourself gasping for breath at times, you may lose weight, feeling exhausted all the time, pain in your chest which tends to be constant rather than varying.

One of the most alarming symptoms of lung cancer is coughing up blood, and brown mucus however though this may just be a sign of the initial symptoms of it so if you catch it early enough, then recovery might be possible, for some people their lung cancer is far too advanced and there is nothing that can be done if it has spread too far in their lungs.

Diagnosing lung cancer can be quite difficult, because some of the symptoms are similar to other diseases which exhibit the same symptoms, if you are diagnosed with lung cancer early then you may be asked to have a chest x-ray to see how far the cancer has spread. Blood tests and swabs may be taken in order to make a more concrete diagnosis, something called a bronchoscopy which involves putting a device down a tube and taking a sample of tissue from the bronchial tubes, which will be analyzed in a laboratory in order to check whether the cells are cancerous or not.

There are various treatments for lung cancer, depending on how far the actual tumour has spread, however only one in five people are suitable for this particular procedure. If you fall into the bracket of having other illnesses say for instance heart disease, or a problem with your liver.

Then surgery may be out of the question because you probably won’t be able to handle the stress of the surgery as well as your other problems, lung cancer that is very small in size can be treated with chemotherapy, it has to be noted know that there are some quite unpleasant side-effects of chemotherapy such as nausea, hair loss but after a few months your hair will grow back once the treatment has been finished.

What is the general outlook for people after treatment overall about 10 percent will be cured whereas 90 percent won’t be so lucky. So the moral of the story of this is prevention is better than cure is it really worth lighting that cigarette up for what it could eventually do to you in your future life.
