Think of all the money that you will save from smoking cessation if you are smoking 20 cigarettes a day at roughly five pounds a pack, then it is costing you £1680 pounds a year if you times that by 10 years it has cost you £16,800 pounds, that truly is a lot of money.

2. Set a day when you’re going to quit smoking make sure that you’re not around people who do smoke, and even if you do come into contact with people that do smoke and they offer you a cigarette, politely turn them down and say no thanks I am giving it up.

If you say to them I am trying to stop smoking then your subconscious mind will think you’re just trying rather than stopping altogether, it doesn’t know the difference between right or wrong only what you tell it.

3. Be consciously aware of when you smoke cigarettes, the reason for this is without even being aware of it you tend to smoke at set times during the day or evening a, typical example of this could be when you are drinking a cup of coffee.

You may want to smoke a cigarette with it instead of doing that do something else instead of having a cigarette, this will build up new habit patterns in your mind but the key to this is to keep at it one of the reasons that many people fail.

Is because they don’t do it over a long enough period of time try to at least aim for 30 days it may be hard but it will be worth it in the long-term, especially as far as your health is concerned.

4. Get rid of all the things associated with cigarette smoking such as empty cigarette packets, ashtrays lighters, and matches. Wash clothes that you may have been wearing whilst smoking in order to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke.

5. Make a list of the reasons why you want to stop smoking, here are some suggestions for you better health, more money, you will feel better, etc etc put this somewhere where you can see it every day, or carry a card round with those reasons on it so you can read it where ever you are.

6. Learn to breathe properly this may sound like such a simple thing, but in reality most of us are quite shallow breathers, try doing this inhale air through your nose and then breathe out through your mouth, and notice how good it feels wouldn’t it be better to do this, rather than inhaling smoke which is doing you more harm than good.

7. Certain things that you might do could trigger off a craving, you could be in a situation or something may happen and all of a sudden from nowhere you may have a craving to smoke a cigarette, thing to do here is don’t give in to how you’re feeling most cravings only last a few minutes, so as long as your strong and don’t cave in this will strengthen the no smoking habit.

8. Try and avoid stressful situations if at all possible, a lot of people tend to smoke when they are under stress don’t give in to temptation it may be easier said than done but you can do it.

9. Get some exercise it’s one of the simplest things that you can do in order to make yourself feel better it may seem quite hard at first if you haven’t done any for a long time, but this is a good way to burn off toxins, and is also a good way to manage stress which is one of the reasons why some people do tend to smoke.

10. Start a smoking log and every time you resist the urge to have a cigarette, reward yourself with a treat or do something that you enjoy for instance treat yourself to a meal, or anything that makes you feel positive this will reinforce positive behaviour that is not associated with smoking.

3. You will have more energy smoking over a length of time prematurely ages your lungs, so it’s harder to do exercise for long periods of time.
